The barrier reef is just 10 minutes by boat from the town of San Pedro on the island of Ambergris Caye and there are 40 named dive sites close by, sites you will visit include Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a protected reserve encompassing a natural break in the reef where you will see a variety of marine life including green turtles, snappers, tarpon, sergeant majors, french grunts, puffer fish, stingrays and eagle rays and numerous nurse sharks. Corals abound in many dive sites including beautiful purple sea fans, elkhorn, staghorn and brain corals, as well as tube sponges.

Heading into the jungle is a complete contrast to the hustle and bustle of San Pedro town and you will instantly feel relaxed surrounded by the foliage and birdsong, although listen out for the howler monkeys at dusk and dawn, the loudest mammal on the planet will howl to mark his territory and warn off other males.
