Fly from London to US. Overnight in US (Room only).
Fly from US to Belize City. Met on arrival and driven for 1 hour before being transferred into a riverboat where your driver will navigate your along the New River to your lodge on the edge of a lagoon.
Enjoy two guided activities per day which could include night walk, spotlight river safari, guided tour of Lamanai Mayan Ruins, making tortillas and having lunch in local village and sunrise canoeing on lagoon.
Transfer back to Belize City and then fly in small propeller plane to the popular island of Ambergris Caye.
Enjoy a 2 stop snorkel tour to Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley which are just 10 minutes by boat from Ambergris Caye. In crystal clear waters you will get the opportunity to get up close with Southern Stingrays, nurse sharks, moray eels, shoals of grunts, and an array of brightly coloured tropical reef fish.
Day at leisure to enjoy Ambergris Caye, optional excursions could include another snorkel to nearby Mexico Rocks to the north of the island, or hire a golf cart and travel to Secret Beach at the north of the island or take a ferry across to the laidback island of Caye Caulker.
Fly back to the mainland and travel 2 hours inland to the Cayo district to a remote jungle lodge situated on the banks of the Macal River. Onsite activities include river tubing, canoeing, birdwatching and hiking.
Guided tour of Actun Tunichal Muknal (ATM) Cave, this is a physical excursion (for children 12 and over) starting with a 45 minute hike through the jungle before venturing deep into this sacred cave where the ancient mayans used to break pots in ceremony to the gods, the broken shards and altar remain and also the crystallised remains of human sacrifice. Families with younger children can take a canoe trip into Barton Creek Cave as an alternative.
Choose between a guided tour of rival ancient mayan sites of Tikal or Caracol. Both remain deep in the rainforest and surrounded by wildlife including howler monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans and parrots. Tikal is vastly excavated and is just across the border in neighbouring Guatemala. Caracol is less excavated but has interesting temples, spectacular views across the Chiquibul Forest and is much less visited than any other site.
After a guided early morning birdwalk you will depart the lodge by vehicle and take a 3 hour scenic drive along the Hummingbird Highway through the mountains to the southern coastal town of Placencia.
Today you will experience the beauty of the remote Silk Cayes on the outer barrier reef off the coast of Placencia. An hours boat ride takes you to a tiny sandbank island, where you will snorkel from to the spectacular soft and hard corals of the Silk Cayes, shoals of tropical reef fish can be spotted including sergeant majors, triggerfish, french grunts, butterfly fish and angelfish. A picnic buffet lunch will take place back on the island between snorkels. On your return trip to Placencia you will stop at Turtle Spot a place where the fishermen empty their scraps attracting large turtles and stingrays.
Relax on the beach or in the pool, or take bikes into the friendly town of Placencia and enjoy the shops, bars and restaurants.
