Snorkelling Holiday

This holiday allows you to immerse yourself in the crystal clear coral reefs of the Belize Barrier Reef, discovering three different regions of the reef, and staying on several cayes (islands).

Your first stay is on the larger island of Ambergris Caye where you can snorkel the renowned Hol Chan Marine Reserve which is just 10 minutes by boat from the island. You then fly in a small propeller plane down to Placencia on the southern coast, a lovely and friendly Creole village where you will stay at a guesthouse on the beach. From here you will take a fast boat to the outer barrier reef to snorkel at Silk Cayes and where you will also snorkel Turtle Spot renowned for turtles, rays and nurse sharks. Alternatively, you could take a boat to the inner reef and the idyllic picture postcard island of Laughing Bird Caye where you can snorkel from the beach.

Finally transferring to Dangriga and transferring by boat to Tobacco Caye on the middle cayes of the barrier reef and located within the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. Tobacco Caye is a small island right atop the barrier reef and is perfect for relaxation, water activities and snorkelling directly from the beach.

Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

Fly from London to US. Overnight in nearby airport hotel (Room only).

Day 2

Fly from US to Belize International Airport and then take a short propeller flight to the island of Ambergris Caye. Met on arrival and transferred to Ramon's Village Resort

Day 3

Visit the renowned Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley where you will see brightly coloured tropical reef fish such as sergeant majors, angelfish and french grunts. You may also see southern stingrays, nurse sharks, green turtles and perhaps a moray eel. Alternatively you could snorkel at Mexico Rocks further north of the island where there are a diversity of soft and hard corals and array of tropical fish. Overnight Ramon's Village Resort (B)

Day 4

Day at leisure. *Optional excursions could include a boat trip to see manatees, hiring a golf cart and exploring the island, or taking a day trip to the neighbouring island of Caye Caulker. Overnight Ramon's Village Resort (B)

Day 6

Take a 14 seater propeller flight back to the mainland and then another flight to the southern coastal town of Placencia, a friendly Creole village that was originally a fishing village. The village is at the tip of a 16 mile peninsula and has a variety of bars and restaurants. Overnight at Belizean Nirvana (B).

Day 7

Included during your stay is a choice of snorkel trip either at Laughing Bird Caye or Silk Cayes. These are both world class snorkel sites. Silk Cayes is situated on the outer barrier reef and takes approx. 1 hour fast boat ride to reach, you snorkel from a tiny island to see an array of soft and hard corals, a variety of reef fish and may see rays and nurse sharks. On the return journey you will stop at the Turtle Spot, a spot that traditionally the fishermen have thrown their scraps back into the sea and that attracts turtles, rays and nurse sharks, you can snorkel amongst them. Laughing Bird Caye is an inner caye and a 40 minute boat ride from Placencia. This stunning, palm dotted sandy island with turquoise waters is an ideal base to snorkel from the beach following your guide, and seeing shoals of blue tang, staghorn and brain coral and a variety of soft corals including purple sea fans. Day 8

Day at leisure. *Optional excursions could include a boat trip to Monkey River to spot howler monkeys, a cruise to spot manatees on the Placencia lagoon, a trip to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (a preserve for jaguars, although sightings are rare) or a trip to the southern Toledo region to visit a Cacao Farm and make chocolate or visit some interesting and less visited Mayan Ruins. Day 9

Transfer to Dangriga by a small 14 seater propeller plane and then take a 45 minute boat ride to Tobacco Caye in the South Water Marine Reserve. Overnight in simple over the water cabins on Tobacco Caye (BLD)

Day 10

Enjoy snorkelling the barrier reef directly from the island. Paddle boards and ocean kayaks are available to hire. Overnight Tobacco Caye Cabins (BLD).

Day 11

Day at leisure to snorkel the surrounding barrier reef. Overnight Tobacco Caye Cabins (BLD).

Day 12

Transfer by boat back to the mainland and then take a short propeller flight to Belize International Airport to connect with your international flight back to UK via US.
